ALIGNMENT OF SUPERSTITIONS

The longest solar eclipse of this century took place on Wednesday, plunging parts of Asia into temporary darkness and triggering scenes of superstition and religious fervor. The eclipse could be seen from parts of India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma, China and the Pacific Ocean, including Ryukyu Island, Marshall Island, Kiribati and Aceh.

Devout worshipers thronged the River Ganges in India and Pakistani parents buried their paralyzed children up to their necks near the River Indus, believing that the eclipse would enable them to walk.
